In this research, the shielding characteristics of ionizing rays (gamma and neutron) of glasses with the combination of telluride dioxide and bismuth trioxide are investigated using Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation toolkit. In this study, parameters related to photon attenuation such as: mass attenuation coefficient, half-value layer, decimating layer, mean free path, electron and atomic cross-sectional area, effective electron density, ratio of mass attenuation coefficient to total attenuation coefficient, equivalent atomic number in the range 0.015 to 15 MeV and the fast neutron removal cross section is calculated for each of the selected glasses. The simulation results are compared with the results obtained from the Phy-X program, which are in good agreement with each other. The agreement between the simulation results and the data extracted from this program shows that the Geant4 toolkit is a good method to check the gamma ray shielding properties of selected materials. Also, the results obtained for the protective properties of these glasses show more appropriate attenuation parameters compared to conventional protective materials such as concrete. Due to calculations and higher density, S5 glass has the best protection against gamma and X-rays compared to other examined glasses and can be used in medical fields.
